The City of Harrisonville currently utilizes a board of aldermen/city administrator form of city government. The position of Harrisonville city administrator was created on September 4, 1985.
Under Harrisonville's current form of government, the Board of Aldermen has a broad legislative authority that includes formulating and adopting the policy, approving the budget and levying taxes among other duties. They concentrate on issues that are central to citizens' needs and wishes.
The city administrator provides professional leadership in carrying out the policies and objectives formulated by the Board of Aldermen. This includes administering the planning, development, coordination, and monitoring of programs and projects to ensure they meet the goals set by the Board of Aldermen.
The city administrator works as a member of a team alongside the mayor and Board of Aldermen, providing information and recommendations to help in the decision making the process. City Administrator's Duties
- The city administrator is the chief operating officer of the city.
- The administrator has supervisory authority over purchasing, budgeting, financial reporting, public relations, policy development, and personnel management.
- The administrator recruits, hires, and supervises department heads and members of the management team.
- The administrator coordinates the day-to-day operation of all city departments to carry out the policies of the Board of Aldermen and ensure the citizens of Harrisonville are being properly served.
